The Need for Building Conversions

Especially in metropolitan areas such as Toronto, heritage preservation is a pressing issue in economic development and the construction industry. Introducing Scan to BIM

Scan to BIM is the latest technology in state-of-the-art retrofit and conversion projects. 3D laser scanning enables AEC professionals to extract comprehensive information from as-built structures. In this way, construction companies gain a competitive advantage from both ends of the spectrum: project quality and operational efficiency.

Here are a few benefits of Scan to Revit:
  • Get accurate measurements. 3D point clouds make manual measurements and guess work obsolete. By scanning every surface from multiple angles, zero estimation is needed when it comes to as-built conditions.
  • Gain access to schematic designs. Measurements aren’t the only benefit of Scan to BIM – it also includes standard CAD solutions such as site plans, floor plans, elevations, and 3D renderings.
  • Guarantee real-time quality control. During construction, 3D laser scans can be used for advanced clash detection. Thanks to BIM software, it can also be used to plan and design alterations or additions based on what is being built.

The BIM Phenomenon

In the 2016 NBS International BIM Report, more than 80% of respondents who didn’t use BIM were interested in adopting the software despite being aware of the necessary workflow adjustments. Naturally, Research and Markets projects the global BIM software market to grow at a CAGR of 17.04% through to 2020.
